AFAS Recieves $45K Donation

The AFAS group who produces the Arts on Sunday Series and supports local artists in the Winston Salem area received a $45,000 donation from PotashCorp, an international company that has a major phosphate operation in Aurora, NC. Winston Salem Mayor Allen Joines, AFAS Chairman, Harry Knabb and other members of the AFAS group were on hand to accept the check at Sunday’s event.

“The group will use the funds to continue to produce free community events and build, educate, and celebrate community through art” said Knabb.

“In these times of economic hardship, this donation from PotashCorp is extremely appreciated. It is because of support from individuals and corporations such as PotashCorp that arts can continue to flourish in our community. This donation will allow AFAS to expand programs and reinforces that Winston Salem is the City of the Arts,” said Knabb.

AFAS is a non-profit Winston Salem based corporation whose mission is to build, educate, and celebrate community through art. The group was founded in 2007 and is managed and operated by a volunteer board of directors. For more information about AFAS and its events and other activities, please visit www.theafasgroup.com.
