Celebrate Happy Hour at Wolfies Frozen Custard in downtown Winston-Salem!

Who says Happy Hour is only for brews and cocktails? With the heat of summer 2010 in full swing, Wolfies Gourmet Frozen Custard is introducing its own version of Happy Hour complete with plenty of cool treats to beat the summer heat.

Wolfies is offering half off the price of single scoops during Happy Hour from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The special Happy Hour offer will continue through Labor Day weekend.

“Happy Hour always has been about ‘cool’ treats at the end of a long day,” Wolfies manager Emily Fourqurean said. “There’s no cooler treat than frozen custard, and, best of all, you don’t have to be 21 to enjoy our special Happy Hour deals. We invite students, the downtown workforce, local residents and anyone else who likes a great deal to visit Wolfies and take advantage of our half price frozen custard during Happy Hour.”

Creamier, smoother, and richer than yogurt or ice cream, Wolfies Gourmet Frozen Custard is a delicious, irresistible treat that will excite the palate of anyone who experiences it.
Wolfies is located 420 West Fourth Street in downtown Winston-Salem.

Big Time Bottle Opener

Update from May 22, 2009 previous blog posting
http://downtownwinstonsalem.blogspot.com/2009/05/downtown-employees-invent-nifty-gadget.html

Back in 2009, these guys still had their patent pending. They sent out this press release yesterday.

For Immediate Release:

Designfluence, a Winston-Salem based design outfit, has been awarded a United States Patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Their Utility Patent (US #7,685,908) for a “Drink Insulator with Bottle Opener,” was granted to them on March 30th, 2010. You may have heard of the hot new coozie on the market, Cap•A•Cooz™, or possibly seen it around in local stores and bars. Well the Cap•A•Cooz is their product, which they proudly manufacture right here in the Triad.

A North Carolina based company, Designfluence avoided the easy temptations to have their manufacturing done overseas by the Asian markets. They found an economical and sustainable way to create the Cap•A•Cooz™ right here in the U.S., and more importantly here in the Triad, which is something they are very proud of. With over 60% of the product manufactured within a 20 mile radius of Winston, the guys at Designfluence found a way to streamline the production in a sustainable fashion. With their recycled metal and recycled plastic regrind, they are doing their part to make highly the unique coozie as environmentally efficient as possible while still supporting local jobs and manufacturing. Three years in the making, and after launching the Cap•A•Cooz™ a year and a half ago, the company has managed to sell over 9,000 throughout the U.S., with simple social media marketing and by word of mouth. For more information on the Cap•A•Cooz™, and to find out how you can get your very own or have a custom Cap•A•Cooz™ printed for your next event please visit them at http://www.capacooz.com/ or you can contact them by phone at 336.839.2669
Congratulations!

Strong downtown to recruit jobs

There was a story in the Winston Salem Journal today about how Winston-Salem is a prime spot for data centers. Here is a link........http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2010/jun/09/090201/winston-salem-prime-spot-for-data-centers/news/

The news story by Richard Craver of the Winston-Salem Journal is based upon a recent release of a national study that was released by The Boyd Company, a Princeton, NJ site selection consultant company. Here is a link to the company website http://www.theboydcompany.com/

In the story, there is a compelling quote about downtown....John Boyd, Jr. said he expects that some data-operation decisions will be made in the next six months, with Winston-Salem and the Triad in the mix because of the lower overall operating cost.

"You also have available land, quality available work force, and an attractive higher-education system," Boyd said.
Still, he said, there are areas in which Winston-Salem can spruce up its brand and recruitment packages to prevent more runner-up finishes.
For instance, downtown-revitalization efforts have proved important for not only attracting young professionals, but also the companies that want to hire them.

I was happy to see a nationally respected site selection consultant actually acknowledge the importance of downtown to job recruitment efforts for a city.

I thought I would add a link to two other recent stories that I have read that I think are compelling.

The street will be closed through at least Friday afternoon and perhaps through the weekend, depending on how fast the work progresses.

Streets officials intend to complete the repairs under the left lane first so that lane can be re-opened to traffic as soon as possible. The middle and right lanes will remain closed while crews continue to repair damage under the street that caused a sinkhole to open May 26.
