Marcus Johnson Plays the Arts Council Theater

The Summer Music Series Friday Night Jazz Production company takes the act indoors and brings Marcus Johnson to the Arts Council Theater.

Marcus Johnson’s artistic journey as a jazz keyboardist, composer and producer reflects his entrepreneurial spirit, his maverick approach to composing and performing as well as his principled dedication to God, family and community.

His latest release Poetically Justified has peaked in the top 10 of Billboard's Contemporary Jazz charts. This CD features smooth jazz heavy weights Masya (Incognito fame), Najee, and Miles Jaye.

Marcus has shared the stage with many musical legends including Peabo Bryson, Diana Krall, Peter White, Rick Braun, Norman Brown, Arturo Sandoval, Chuck Mangione and George Duke among others. He’s played many of the world’s famous festivals and venues including The Capital Jazz Festival, Bermuda Jazz Festival, Huntington Beach Jazz Festival and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Marcus cites Thelonious Monk and Joe Samples as his early influences throughout high school and his undergraduate studies at Howard University. While pursuing both a JD and MBA at Georgetown University, Marcus also launched Three Keys Music a successful music publishing company.

The concert will be held on Saturday October 3, 2009 @ The Arts Council Theatre Winston-Salem, NC. Ticket prices are $ 25.00 in advance/ 30 @ the door. Start time is 8:00pm.
