Sharrow anyone

Have you seen the new shared lane marking or sharrow on Burke Street.  This is the first place that you will see one of these in Winston-Salem.  The city uses these in situations where there is not sufficient width on the street to install a separate bike lane, but they still want to indicate that cyclists may be present on the street. It helps position cyclists away from the "door zone" of parked vehicles and also gives drivers a visual cue that they may see cyclists.

For more info, here is a link to a relatively new biking/walking newsletter from the City of Winston-Salem.  http://cityofws.org/Home/Departments/Transportation/Biking/Newsletters/BikingAndWalkingFall2010

And a link to the Yadkin River Greenway Feasibility Study page. There is a link on that page to an online survey.

Pretty cool stuff.  Be sure to tell Matthew Burczyk, City of Winston-Salem's Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator that you appreciate these new bike lanes.  mattbk@cityofws.org
