Downtown Live - Winston Square Park this Thursday at 6PM - Homage to Local Music Scene

The final Downtown Live presented by Piedmont Natural Gas of the season will be this Thursday night at Winston Square Park. This will be a special event and we were fortunate to partner with Richard Emmett (owner of The Garage) and Tucker Tharpe, both Summer Music Series Production alumni, who have helped us bring this event to you.

To help describe the event, here is a blurb from The Garage Newsletter released last week (interlaced are some videos and links about the bands) -

Even before the opening of the new Ziggys last weekend downtown Winston has evolved from just a few spots for live music - The Garage, The Wherehouse, Rubber Soul , and Speakeasy Jazz & Blues - being the only places in town to host local and regional band shows, to our downtown having a slew of venues featuring local bands and performers on a daily basis – mainly Thursday through Saturday nights. These venues include: Krankies, Old Winston Social Club, Finnegan's Wake, 6th and Vine, NOMAs, Burke Street Pub, Ten O One, Rana Loca, Tates, Elliott’s Revue and possibly others.

The Downtown WS Partnership will pay homage to our strong local music scene (musicians and venues) by hosting a battle of the bands featuring three local performers/groups that represent the breadth and depth of the local music scene.

Meghan Marquette is a soulful jazz, blues and folk rock performer who is part of the stable of musicians represented by the up and coming local company Sound Lizzard Productions founded and led by Liz May. Meghan has played many local venues including the Community Arts Cafe.

Ben Robinson is an extremely talented blues guitarist in the mold of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Ben moved to town a year or so ago and has taken the local club scene by storm with his electrifying guitar playing. Ben has a regular Tuesday night gig at 1001.
