Jazz Day at Carolina Summer Music Festival Saturday, August 20

The Carolina Summer Music Festival, which runs August 14 through 27, is presenting “Jazz Day”--a full day of performances featuring Jazz--on Saturday, August 20.

Jazz Day begins with Jazz4Kidz, an interactive morning jazz concert for the whole family, which will present an entertaining introduction to the music of jazz greats Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn with vocalist Martha Bassett and David Ford, host and producer of WFDD’s “Triad Arts Up Close.” That same afternoon, jazz fans can enjoy a free showing of the film, Chops, a documentary profiling a group of young aspiring jazz musicians as they travel to New York City to compete with other high school jazz bands in the Essentially Ellington Festival. That afternoon and evening, acclaimed Triad jazz musicians will present “Mood Indigo: A Tribute to Duke Ellington,” featuring classics by Ellington and Strayhorn such as “Lush Life,” “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” “Take the ‘A’ Train,” and more.
