NRTC OPENS SECOND SEASON WITH A MODERN MUSICAL ABOUT A LOVE STORY CRISSCROSSING THROUGH TIME

“The Last Five Years” Opens November 16 at the HanesBrands Theatre

Winston-Salem’s newest professional theatre, No Rules Theatre Company (NRTC), opens its second season with the funny and touching musical, The Last Five Years, at The HanesBrands Theatre, 209 North Spruce St., Winston-Salem, NC. Directed by No Rules’ Co-Artistic Director, Joshua Morgan, this charming and tender story of both sides of a relationship runs November 16 – December 4, 2011. Performances are Thursday-Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm and Saturday-Sunday afternoons at 2:00 pm.

Jamie is on the brink of an amazing writing career when he meets Cathy. Cathy is facing the end of her acting career when her relationship with Jamie ends. Jamie’s story takes us from beginning to end and Cathy’s story takes us from end to beginning as they crisscross through their five-year love story. Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown’s ingenious and intimate music rides the emotional undercurrent of this changing relationship allowing the actors to live the story night to night.

Director Joshua Morgan talks about how NRTC chose this piece to open their second season in Winston-Salem, “When programming, we take into account an entire season that fits within the idea of presenting a broad spectrum of work to a diverse audience base and this modern musical reaches a new audiences for us. Winston-Salem is a very smart city that seems to appreciate work that is experiential but that you're able to walk away talking about. Jason Robert Brown has written a piece that is so lyrically and musically specific that forces you stay involved with these characters as we watch two different lives unfold.”

Tickets for The Last Five Years can be purchased for $25 by calling 336-747-1414 or visiting www.rhodesartscenter.org.
