Community Open House - Urban Circulator Alternatives Analysis

This was sent out by Stan Polanis, Director, Winston-Salem Department of Transportation on Thursday:
The City of Winston-Salem is initiating an Alternatives Analysis to examine the need for an urban circulator. Please “save the date” and join us for a community Open House on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Central Library Auditorium (Forsyth County Public Library, 660 West 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC). The Open House will consist of an informal drop-in session, with brief formal presentation. Below are some bullet points summarizing what we would like to accomplish at the initial Open House. The intent is not to get into any specific evaluation of route or mode options, but to talk about which options we should consider during the study and how we will evaluate those options (evaluating against the goals).

· Educate public about the study process
  • Provide background info from feasibility study
  • Illustrate federal project development process
  • Timeline for this AA
· Discuss goals / purpose & need for project
  • Address project as part of a “bigger picture” – discuss other related planning efforts like Downtown Plan, regional connectivity with PART, etc.
  • Discuss project as more than a mobility project – potential to impact development, livability, etc.
  • Allow attendees to select / suggest goals that they like
Educate public about technology options
  • Show images / describe characteristics of streetcar and bus technology
  • Show images of stations / streetscape
Discuss potential route options
  • Confirm study area
  • Show map with route from feasibility study and other potential options (and allow public to show other route options)
