Segway Tours Glide Into Downtown Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Friday, July 13, 2013 – Residents and visitors will soon have the opportunity to experience the history and culture of Winston-Salem in an innovative way. Beginning early August, 2013, Revolution Gliding Tours will offer a fully-narrated, five-mile guided tour of downtown Winston-Salem. Customers will glide effortlessly on a Segway® i2 Personal Transporter while a knowledgeable “Glide Guide” introduces them to the sites, sounds, and scents of the city.

The tours will provide a superior focused, yet leisurely sightseeing experience that is suitable for visitors and locals alike. The tours are limited to four participants so reservations are highly recommended.

The tours will be offered every Saturday and Sunday at 10am, 2pm, and 5pm. Tours are available Monday through Friday at 6pm. Weekday tours are available with prior arrangement. The tours are priced at $55 per person and include equipment and helmet use, 30 minutes of instruction, and a two-hour guided tour.

After a short instructional video, “Gliders” will have a chance to get acclimated on the Segway before beginning the tour. The Segway PT is controlled by five mico-angular rate sensors and two accelerometers that sense the angle of the unit 100 times per second. The Segway uses these measurements to balance the rider on its two wheels. To move forward or backward, the Glider simply needs to lean in the direction they would like to go. The units are equipped with a LeanSteer handlebar that directs the motion left or right. The ease of use makes Segways a safe yet exciting way to explore the city.

The Segway’s electric motors produce zero-emissions during operation. The batteries can recharge on about 12 cents of electricity per day making the tours an excellent green way to see the city.
