I greatly enjoyed working with to lightly assist a local Eagle Scout Project by Sarina Horners, which was a geocache/hike through Downtown Winston-Salem and Old Salem. Learn more about this remarkable project below.
The hike portion (Cache to Eagle #3-#8) is a six mile loop (approximate) with 400 feet of elevation gain through downtown Winston-Salem & Old Salem. It will take about 2 hours 25 minutes to complete. If you are a scout doing the Cache to Eagle Challenge you will find a scout law principle in each of the first 12 caches (visit #1 and #2 & complete the hike #3 through #8). The few caches that aren’t right in front of an eagle project actually “are” because it was a service project or multiple projects are in the next location.
The female Scout, whose eagle project is a trail marker & the feature in Cache to Eagle #2 of this series, was inspired to create this series/course based on her scouting journey. Her eagle project marker shares more about her.
It took over 50 hours to develop this hike in collaboration with a city historian, Old Hickory Council and other community leaders.
She will be one of the very first female Eagle Scouts in the world and is a proud scout of Troop 729!
